Aurora Aksnes' earliest memory of music was discovering an old grand piano hidden in the attic. She was fascinated by its capabilities. Jan Oystein Aksnes' parents May Britt Aksnes urged her to pursue music for personal growth, rather than as a way of earning money or to pursue as a hobby. She began to write writing her own songs. She acknowledges Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen and Bjork as being her influences. Her mother encouraged her to perform her music in front of the public, but not to achieve fame, but rather in order to show others how important they are and the good they do to make a difference in the world. Piano was her first instrument, at six, and she started making music at the age of nine. The family members didn't know about it until she turned 14. Aurora never dreamed of being famous. She says she just likes creating songs. According to her, she believes music can make any person feel better.
